Margaret Regan statement on DeAnn Melton portraits:
Her portraits have an ambitious two-part goal, wittily summed up in the show’s punning title. "The Artist’s Image" not only offers a portrait of the artists’ flesh - the image of their physical selves - but also a portrait of the artists’ work - the image of their aesthetic selves. In Melton’s portraits, the imagery of the sitters’ own paintings floats around their heads like a halo, an enveloping aura of their artistic preoccupations. The technique is effective.
